Drew started playing poker in 2005 with a $50 deposit on PartyPoker. Within six months, he went from .25/.50 NLH to 1/2 NLH, which he’s been grinding successfully ever since. In 2006 he left the University of Texas and decided to pursue poker full-time.
Since then, Drew has been leading a life of mild excess and playing 200NL on PokerStars, though he’s dabbled in 400NL a good amount, too. He admits his biggest challenge has been finding the motivation to maintain the work ethic necessary to steadily improve and stay abreast of an ever changing game. In the past year he has come to terms with this struggle, admitting “this is the source of my livelihood and I need to take it seriously."
Drew credits a large part of his success to instructional poker videos. At first, he watched videos mainly for the “Eureka!” moments – videos by CTS, Phil Galfond, and FoxwoodsFiend gave him inspiration and taught him new modes of thinking about the game. Nowadays, he focuses less on epiphany and more on refinement. For that, he looks to Leggo’s own The_End, JamesMa, shootaa, Dogg11, harangutang, and more.
Drew recently reenrolled in college, this time at the University of Houston, pursuing a degree in psychology. When asked about the future, Drew says he aspires to graduate and move up in poker as much as possible. As for the specifics, he prefers to live in the moment.
