When Alex "grizy" Jian went busto in 2004, his whole outlook on poker changed completely. With the help and support of his girlfriend Alex recovered and is now playing $25/$50 PLO; which he has been playing on and off for years now.
At 26-years-old Alex has graduated with a double major in Finance and Econ as well as a minor in Japanese and Poli Sci. Yet, somehow this busy guy has and is managing his poker playing skills and is only improving.
Before his days as a successful poker player Alex would work every summer doing different internships. When he looks back on his experience with the internships he notes that when compared to poker they consist of a lot more hours and undoubtedly don't pay as well.
Once Alex discovered poker in 2001 he used money that he had made from selling EverQuest items on EBay to deposit into an account. As time went on poker was smooth for Alex, but in 2004 things took a turn for the worse and he ended up going busto. Alex knew this wasn't the end of his poker playing career and he borrowed $300 from his girlfriend and begun playing non-stop.
By playing 24 tables of $.05/$.10 NLHE and $5 SNG/MTT, Alex emerged out of his busto phase and rose to success, playing as high as $200/$400 PLO
Through his experiences of going busto Alex has learned that poker can bring many challenges to anybody. For Alex, he realizes that bankroll management and holding on to money away from the table are his two biggest hurdles as of now. "Desensitization toward money is a great weapon at the table, but it's a trap in terms of making a career out of anything," says Alex, adding, "including poker."
For now life is good for Alex and he hopes to see it continue into his future, where he would like to see himself playing in his own condo and working as a financial advisor in a job with (let’s hope) flexible hours.
