At 23 years old Philip Weedle has transformed himself from what he called a “tourney donk” to a successful cash game player. Philip has a degree in Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Science from University College Cork in Ireland and works as an assistant trader with Susquehanna International Group (SIG) in Dublin.

SIG is a global leader in the trading of a wide variety of securities, commodities, and other financial products, and one of the largest market makers and liquidity providers in the nation. "The hours are tough but the work is very interesting and challenging and there are numerous overlaps with poker," said Philip "we actually play poker twice a week in the office as part of the training process"

When Philip found poker he was just a student who had worked summer jobs, one being a laborer for over four years and, although he has fond memories of these jobs, it just didn’t compare to playing poker. Starting out, Philip played low buy-in live tournaments, reading whatever poker books he could get his hands on. Eventually, he discovered the 2+2 forums and started playing micro buy-in tournaments and 4NL - 10NL cash games online.

Although Philip was winning in the cash games, his stats were not doing so well. It wasn't until FutureDoc85 found him that his game really took off. "I was playing 46/22 or something insane. FutureDoc85 saw some stats I posted on 2+2 and offered to help me out since he liked my MSPaints on BBV. He talked to me over aim and really changed my game,” said Philip, adding, “If it wasn’t for him I’d probably still be a tourney donk.”

In recent times BobboFitos' ebook, aejones' memoirs series and their Leggo videos have had a massive effect on Philip's game and understanding of a lot of important concepts. It took some time for Philip to move up and he did encounter struggles along the way. "Time commitments and work ethic are, and have been, my biggest challenges in poker. Due to college, and now work, I'm frequently too tired to play and when I do have time I've often struggled to get large amounts of hands in.”

Currently, Philip spends his small amount of free time writing poker articles and creating videos. His approach is heavily focused on mathematics and game theory. In recent months he's been studying limit stud and limit hold'em. "I have to play it in work," explains Philip "so I may as well make some money in the process."

Philip’s game has improved and is continuing to improve. He's very happy working at SIG and looks forward to qualifying as a trader so he'll have more time to dedicate to poker again.
