I'm going to go ahead and use my super recommendation of 2010 for 'Delocated'.

It is the best new comedy show I have found in a very long time, and if you're the type of person who likes things that are good then you'll love it.

It's creator/star is Jon Glaser (former writer for Late Night with Conan O'Brien and appeared in my favourite 'Human Giant' sketch as the devil), and he plays a man in the witness protection program starring in a reality TV show set in New York City. Due to his need for anonymity he wears a balaclava and has his voiced altered at all times.

Its second season is currently airing 10PM Sundays on Adult Swim, or consult the internet.

In other news the WCOOP kicks off on the 5th September at 13:00 ET, and it looks like I'll be hosting the final table of Event #1.

So if you've always wanted to type something to me (but have always been too nervous to leave a comment here where I could possibly track your username and hunt you down in the quest to give you a lengthy response or maybe just be weirdly friendly to the point where I seem to think that we're friends but the only contact we've ever had was you leaving that one blog comment then me constantly private messaging you with the tone of someone who has known you for years even going to the point of asking you if you want to see a movie later on that day even though we not only live in different cities but different countries but then it turns out that I've actually flown to your city which is somewhere really remote and there's no other reasonable explanation for me being there so you know I'm literally some absurdly insane stalker who could even be dangerous I mean how could you ever really know catching a plane to the other side of the world just to hang out with you after so little genuine interaction is at best the most worrying thing you'll probably ever experience so I'd say you probably want to call the police just to make sure but they probably won't take you seriously given that I won't have actually made any outright threats to you so you'll be on your own unless you hire professional body guards who will no doubt cost a fortune and are you really willing to part with that money cause who knows maybe I really just want to see a movie with you so even though I'm obviously really really weird I could theoretically be completely harmless so it's a real gamble to use any of your hard earned money on protection especially when you've been saving up for that sweet marble chess board you've wanted for ages and now you might not be able to afford it all because you left a comment on my blog boy that would really suck then again I could maybe track you down through your Stars username anyway and if your comment is as witty there as it would have been in my blog comments section then we're looking at the same terrible potential situation so maybe it's not worth the risk after all), then now is your chance!

Actually I think comments are disabled for the rail on final tables, just ignore that last bit.

Till next time.

That title is obviously a stretch. ‘Flying the coop’ means to escape from something, which doesn’t seem to make any sense in this context. I mean if I had to I invent a reason why I was escaping anything in playing the WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) I’m sure I could. Possibly something silly about ‘running away from the fear of online tournaments’. It wouldn’t be true of course, but you couldn’t really prove that. And even if you could prove it, who would bother to? And if someone was the kind of person to bother to, who would ever listen to them?

Till next time.

Nah.

Anyway, the WCOOP is just around the corner (starting September 5th), and this year I’m actually going to be playing in a few events. I’ve never been the type of guy who enjoys wearing jewellery, but I hear good things about World Series bracelets. And if online poker is more enjoyable than live poker, then it naturally follows that an online bracelet must be more sexually appealing to wear on your wrist then its live counterpart.

One of the bigger problems standing in my way of said virtual bracelet dream is a time zone issue, as most online tourneys start at silly hours for those of us in Australia. I’m not quite ready to commit to the point where I’m going to bed at 8pm and waking up at 4am to start a tourney run, so I’m limited in my event choices to those that start at 8PM ET (which is I think 10am here). Even that is a bit early for me, but whatever.

I’ll definitely be playing in a couple of the $1,050 2 Day NLH events that start at that time, as well as probably the turbo PLO [1 rebuy, 1 add-on] on the 13th. If I find myself enjoying the bracelet hunt then maybe I’ll try to add in something else too. If I don’t find myself enjoying it then I’ll just watch re-runs of ‘Bonanza’ instead. Either way I’ll be having a good time.

You can find the full schedule/ ways to qualify here: http://www.wcoop.com/

And this week’s edition of The Big Game had Prahlad and Ansky along with Negreanu, Hellmuth and Eugene Katchalov. Ansky really got into it with Hellmuth later in the week with some entertaining results.

Till next time.

I saw Hubble 3D at the IMAX in Sydney over the weekend and it was amazing. The narration (care of Leonardo DiCaprio) is predictable, the interviews with the crew less than stunning, the film lasts only 45 minutes, and it’s still amazing.

This is of course due to the stunning visuals, and the use of 3D makes this more of an intergalactic theme park ride than a film. I’m already particularly fascinated by space so this was especially enjoyable for me, but I’m confident that almost everyone will find this interesting. It’s impossible for us to be able to truly grasp the enormity of our universe, with our galaxy (made up of hundreds of billions of stars) being just one of hundreds of billions of galaxies. But (seemingly) physically travelling through photographs produced by the Hubble telescope will at least elicit a response to the idea of the magnitude we’re actually dealing with.

Consider this: within this film you are witnessing images of stars over 5 billion light years away. That means you are looking at pictures of events that occurred BEFORE the Earth was formed. We're not merely travelling through space in 3D, we're travelling through time.

I just think space is a really fucking cool thing to think about, and Hubble 3D in particular is an exceptional experience. I am rarely that impressed by anything, but this one blew me away. Go see it wherever you can find it playing.

In the meantime, here are a few images taken by Hubble to whet your appetite.

In other news, the Pokerstars Big Game has returned for a new round of shows. Last week’s shows (week 4) included Viffer, Antonio Esfandiari, Chau Giang, Barry Greenstein and businessman Rick Rahim along with a new loose cannon, and were in the most part pretty darn entertaining. Ike also makes an appearance late in the week. You can check that out at http://thebiggame.pokerstars.net.

Ways to recognise that someone will never ever be your good friend # 37:

Reaction to ‘Inception’

Us: Did you see Inception yet?

Them: Yeah. I don’t get why there’s so much discussion about it though, I only watched it once and got it completely. Like it was really obvious, 100% I know exactly what it’s about. I guess people who are talking about it at all just weren’t paying any attention.

Us: Oh hey, I just came up with the 37th way to recognise that someone will never ever be your good friend.

Them: Now that I don’t understand.

THE END.

Till next time.

I’ve just got a quick television recommendation for you guys in the shape of ‘Moral Orel’, and more a recommendation to stick with it for the complete 3 seasons (rather than watching an odd episode here or there).

I think it definitely targets a pretty niche audience, but for those that do enjoy it they’ll probably really enjoy it. I don’t want to comment too much on it for fear of ruining the experience, but the series as a whole is definitely an adventure.

Until the conclusion of Sunday’s World Cup final anyway. For the last few years I have been completely whipped off the style of Spain’s (/Barcelona’s) football and I am very happy to see they have made the final. Largely because I just enjoy seeing the best teams advance and provide the best matches, but also because I placed a bet on them to win the WC before the semi- final with Germany (@3.15 to 1). So if they lift the famous trophy I lift ~ $1.5K bones.

I definitely thought it was a good price which put the Germans as slight favourites in the semi, but my main motivation in my WC bets so far has just been to add incentive for following the team I prefer. Incidentally I’m down all the money, but as long as Spain win the final the overall damage won’t be that bad.

Myself/ best friend were considering going to watch the semi last night (4.30am our time) in a cinema in 3D, but backed out due to fears it would be weird FIFA video game like camera angles. I mean I want to see David Villa’s face coming straight at me as much as the next guy, but if that’s it for the whole game it’s probably really annoying in terms of properly experiencing the flow of the match. Has anyone watched any of the World Cup in 3D/ has a review?

Also, for the very few people who didn’t recognise my title reference, I’d like to recommend ‘The Mighty Boosh’ radio series as one of the best things created so far.

And if you haven’t seen Pokerstars’ Big Game show yet, check it out here: http://thebiggame.pokerstars.net/

I thought week 3 was comfortably the best so far, with a line-up of Barry Greenstein, Joe Cada, Jason Mercier, Daniel Alaei, Joe Cassidy and Justin Bonomo joined by impressive loose cannon Nadya Magnus. I think the overall level of play was a step above the first 2 weeks, and as a result there were some genuinely interesting hands.

*Weekly review of ‘Pokerstars.net Big Game’ Television Show*

This week’s loose cannon was Will ‘willybeer22’ Davis, a 29 yr old mid-stakes online grinder, and he took his place alongside Abe Mosseri, Jason Calacanis, Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson and David Williams.

The dynamic was obviously going to be very different with an experienced LC compared to last week’s amateur, and I thought the show was a lot better as a result. As a poker player I’m not generally going to be won over in an entertainment sense by the antics of a complete beginner, but because of this loose cannon format the problem is compounded. By adding in this additional aspect it allows for different overall approaches in strategy, and when our LC isn’t as experienced in thinking strategically we’re basically robbed of that additional point of interest.

This week Will played what I would think was his standard game for the first 4 shows, before attempting to open up for the last 20-30 hands. I think he probably left it a little later than optimal, but with a line up including internet mogul Jason Calacanis I think there’s a good chance he’s a winner in the game (unadjusted). If that’s the case you could make an argument for playing more solidly for 4/5 of the show, though I think that’s only if a smallish win (relative to the game) is significantly valuable to you. It’s definitely way more plus ev to try to utilise that dead 100K as much as you can throughout the whole show, but obviously carries a lot more variance.

Overall I thought this week was definitely an improvement over the first week, and I’m looking forward to seeing next week's line up including Justin Bonomo, Barry Greenstein, Joe Cada, Daniel Alaei and Jason Mercier.

You can catch it on http://thebiggame.pokerstars.net/

Till next time.
